For evaluation purposes, acceptable qualifying experience for all positions must have been in a paid capacity unless noted otherwise in the minimum qualifications for the posted position. 

Additionally, 30+ hours per week will be counted as full-time employment and will receive full credit for the amount of time employed. A minimum of 15 through 29 work hours per week will be counted as part-time employment and will receive half credit for the amount of time employed.

Minimum Qualifications 


  • High School Diploma or GED 


  • Three (3) years of customer service or animal shelter/animal control experience that involved processing inquiries and/or complaints 


  • Valid professional Animal Control related training and/or certification(s) from a State or National organization PLUS two (2) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements 


  • Valid driver's license with good driving record 

  • Must obtain a basic Animal Control Officer (ACO) certification AND euthanasia certification issued by the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) within probationary period 


  • No Felony Drug offenses within the last 10 years 

  • No Animal Cruelty convictions 

  • Availability to work various shifts including evenings, weekends, holidays and twenty-four seven (24/7) on call status 

  • Subject to working in inclement weather 


  • Effective oral and written communications skills 

  • MS Office or similar software skills 

  • Customer Service skills 

  • Ability to lift in excess of fifty (50) pounds 

  • Ability to read and interpret City, State and Federal regulations in an enforcement capacity 

  • Ability to investigate complaints of animal related issues and apprehend/impound animals 


  • Two (2) years of leading and training animal control personnel to ensure that animal control activities are performed correctly and efficiently and that personnel understand assignments is a plus
