Herzog Railroad Services Inc. is currently seeking Software Engineer Interns in St. Joseph, MO . Safety:

  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment. Report any safety violations to supervisor.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain existing projects as well as implementing new features in existing software.


  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Pursuing a degree in a Computer Science related field or equivalent work experience


  • Familiar with object oriented programming languages such as Java, C#, VB, Python, C++, Ruby, etc.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with limited supervision.
  • Experience with C#, VB, SQL and WPF.
  • Experience with ASP.Net MVC, JavaScript, HTML and CSS.
  • Experience with ORMs such as Entity Framework or LLBLGen.
  • Experience managing Microsoft SQL Servers.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Visual Studio, Subversion and Redmine.
  • Graphic or UI design experience.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Pass and maintain e-RAILSAFE pre-employment background check and safety certification (as mandated by Herzog’s Railroad customers).
  • Employees/applicants can be denied access to the railroad property if they have:
  • A felony conviction within the last 7 years
  • An active warrant or open court case
  • A fraud alert and/or your release from incarceration within the last 5 years and/or a history of misdemeanors or crimes of concern.
  • Pass a motor vehicle check and be able to meet Herzog’s driving policy (no major driving offense in the last 3 years)
  • Pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol drug test
  • Pass a pre-employment physical and medical evaluation
  • Successfully complete and maintainer any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
