$50,388 - $60,086 a year

For evaluation purposes, acceptable qualifying experience for all positions must have been in a paid capacity unless noted otherwise in the minimum qualifications for the posted position. 

Additionally, 30+ hours per week will be counted as full-time employment and will receive full credit for the amount of time employed. A minimum of 15 through 29 work hours per week will be counted as part-time employment and will receive half credit for the amount of time employed.

Minimum Qualifications 


  • High school diploma or GED. 


  • Four (4) years of experience as a veterinary assistant/technician working in a veterinary clinic or animal shelter/animal control setting which must include four (4) of the following veterinary assistant/technician areas: 

  • Inventory Management/Control 

  • Knowledge of DEA laws pertaining to controlled substances 

  • High volume spay & neuter 

  • Animal euthanasia programs 

  • Veterinary Emergency Medicine 

  • Patient management in a shelter environment 

  • Training, coaching and motivating staff 

  • Development of training programs 

  • Directs and reviews daily operations of team 


  • One (1) year of lead-work/supervisory responsibilities. (This experience may be included in the required experience listed above.) 


  • Associates degree (or higher) in any field plus three (3) years of the required experience including plus one (1) year of lead-work/supervisory responsibilities will meet the experience requirements. 


  • Valid driver's license with good driving record. 


  • Must obtain a Texas Veterinary Medical Association (TVMA) Certified Veterinary Assistant (CVA) Introduction within one (1) year of appointment. 

  • Must obtain a euthanasia certification issued by the Texas Department of State health Services (TDSHS) within probationary period. 

  • No Animal cruelty convictions. 

  • No Felony drug charges. 


  • Effective oral and written communication skills. 

  • MS Office or similar software skills. 

  • Must be able to read and interpret City, State and Federal regulations. 

  • Availability to work various/varying shifts including evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
